-new cadillac ats. >>> michigan. it's the corner stone of the american labor movement, but could be in for the biggest shake up in its history. despite rallies of union workers in the state capital, michigan lawmakers are on the verge of passing a right to work law. experts say it would be massive symbolic blow to the labor movement. susan candiotti is on the line with us. they would be forced to pay union dues even though they will stild enjoy the benefits of contracts. if this becomes law, what would it mean for unions and what kind of political path they can carry after this? >> that is the question, isn't it? politically, it could be a major blow to unions. last month in michigan, voters rejected a referendum that would have made this unconstitutional. passage could also make unions in the private sector obsolete. if the law passes, union supporters are convinced pay and benefits could take a big hit. the later bureau of labor statistics for 2011 put the immedia median salary for full time union workers at about $940 a week. compared to about $730 a week for nonunion workers.

at some of those races. let's take michigan as an example because it has been in the press. here is the state that produces the automobiles for america that without president obama and the bailout of the auto industry, probably wouldn't in business right now. you've got to governor down there instituting right to work policies that are against the interests of 30% of every living person in michigan. 30% of the residents in michigan live in a family that is associated with a labor union. instead, they focus on taking away women's rights, standing for the most extreme lmentses of the tea party that got rejected in this last election. my point is this, huge opportunities for democratic governors in those states to point out and make sure that we have governors who are focused on balanced budgets and creating jobs not standing in the way of women rights, minority rights, and all the other areas of social radical right politics that is defined if republican party an republican governors in general. >> let me ask about california. do you expect the governor to seek re-election in 2014?

visits union-heavy michigan tomorrow. a state he won easily last month and now the center of new labor protests. the michigan legislature is close to passing a right to work law and that is not sitting well with workers in the state where organized labor was born. one of the biggest labor unions in the country, united auto workers, is firmly against the law which limits the unions' power. michigan's republican governor says he'll sign the bill if it hits his desk this week. >>> we heard from the boss of a radio station behind that london hospital prank. the joke apparently led to the suicide of a nurse who worked there. the australian network chairman calls the death truly tragic and says they're waiting for the full investigation to be complete. two australian deejays called the hospital impersonating british royals and managed to get personal information about prince william easily wife. the nurse who took the call was found dead two days later. the hospital says the deejays' prank was foolish. >>> it as decades-old reform school mystery that still haunts its students. stories about
